Trevor Lacey down to three schools not named UConn

Shooting guard Trevor Lacey from Alabama, one of the top two or three remaining players in the Class of 2011, has cut his list down to Alabama, Kansas and Kentucky.  My guess is that he will sign with Kentucky.  Why? Alabama is on his list because it’s the state school, and that’s beginning to seem like a courtesy.  Perhaps it was once his dream to play there, but now that he’s shot up the charts (#34 Rivals, #11 MaxPreps), my guess is that he’s outgrown Alabama.  Second, he announced a week or two ago that he would hold a press conference after playing in a tournament this week (in Kentucky).  That sounds like pure Calipari showmanship.

Lacey is a big miss for UConn, though it’s difficult to label him as a miss when UConn really never appeared to be in the running.  However, landing Lacey would have allowed UConn to play a 3 guard lineup of Shabazz Napier/Ryan Boatright at point, Lacey at shooting guard and Jeremy Lamb at small forward — which I strongly believe would be the Huskies’ best lineup.  Just as importantly, it would have given the Huskies a solid four player rotation at guard.  UConn is currently a bit thin there with only Napier, Boatright and Lamb.  I may actually miss Donnell Beverly next season!
