Andre LaFleur leaving?

ZagsBlog is reporting that UConn assistant coach Andre LaFleur is reportedly leaving to join the staff of new Providence coach Ed Cooley, as Associate Head Coach.  LaFleur has not confirmed the report.

This would seem to be a very good move for LaFleur.  With George Blaney entrenched as UConn’s Associate Head Coach, there was no way that LaFleur would move up.  And while LaFleur at one point in time might have the strongest in-house contender to succeed Jim Calhoun when he eventually retires, the current thinking is that Kevin Ollie is now the most likely of the internal candidates.  It’s not going to be Blaney or director of basketball operations Glen Miller, who is a fine assistant but did not exactly set the world on fire in his previous head coaching stints.  It’s likely, though, that Miller will take the vacant coaching position.

The real question is how this will affect UConn’s recruiting.  LaFleur is regarded as a top recruiter, and UConn still has a couple of scholarships open for 2011, with guard Trevor Lacey as probably their top target.  Will this affect the Huskies ability to sign Andre Drummond for 2012?
