UConn Women advance to Final Four with win over Duke

The 2-time defending National Champion UConn Women’s team advanced to the Final Four with a big win over Duke, by a final score of 75-40.  The game was close for most of the first half before the Huskies pulled out to a 10 point lead at halftime.

The second half was all UConn.  After two Maya Moore free throws, followed by a Duke bucket, the Huskies went on an 11-0 run to up the lead to 21.  After a Duke free throw, the  Huskies completed a 9-0 run to put the game out of reach.  At that point, the only drama was whether Maya Moore would single-handedly outscore the Blue Devils.

All the talk coming into the game was about how the Blue Devils had put the earlier 87-51 loss to the Huskies behind them — but this game seemed to play out the same way.  For whatever reason, the Huskies just seemed to have the Blue Devil’s number this year, because it’s hard to believe that they’re really 35 points better than the Blue Devils, who are actually a very good basketball team.

The Huskies advance to the Final Four, where they will take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who defeated Tennessee yesterday.
