UConn Football defeats South Florida; earns first BCS Bowl berth

The Huskies defeated South Florida yesterday by a final score of 19-16, winning on Dave Teggart’s career-long 52 yard field goal with fewer than 30 seconds remaining.

The Huskies had a 10 point lead earlier in the fourth quarter and seemed in control of the game, before Jordan Todman was stripped at the Huskies’ 30, and the South Florida offense turned that into a quick touchdown.

The UConn offense failed to score a touchdown in the game, and struggled throughout the game.  The only UConn touchdown came on an interception return right after QB Zach Fraser threw a pick that the Bulls returned to midfield.  The running attack never really was unleashed, and Frazer started our reasonably well but missed on several consecutive passes during the fourth quarter.  He nearly threw an interception that might have gone for 6 points and a South Florida win just prior to the game winning field goal.

After the difficult 2009 season, with the death of Jasper Howard and several heartbreaking losses, games that UConn had in their grasp, this was a big win for the UConn program.
