UConn Football Defeats Cincinnati, 38-17

The UConn Football team defeated the Cincinnati Bearcats at Rentschler Field, by a final score of 38-17.

Despite the final score, the Bearcats were in the game for most of the afternoon, but committed several key turnovers which allowed the Huskies to hold on and pull away.

The key play came in the 2nd quarter, with Cincinnati driving to the UConn 6 and looking to tie the game at 17.  But Kendall Reyes intercept a Zach Collaros pass and returned it to the Cincinnati 5.  Though a holding penalty pushed the Huskies back to the 15, they would go on to score a touchdown and take a 24-10 lead, and would never look back.

Collaros would end up throwing 4 interceptions on the day.

UConn was led as usual by Jordan Todman, who racked up 175 yards on 31 carries, despite getting dinged.  Zach Fraser completed only 11 of 24 passes for 121 yards, 1 TD and one INT.

A Connecticut win at South Florida next week would guarantee that the Huskies would at least tie for the Big East Conference championship.  Since UConn owns tiebreakers over Pitt and West Virginia, that would give the Huskies their first ever BCS Bowl berth.
