Calhoun on Integrity in College Sports; Hathaway Named Men’s Basketball Committee Chairman

Look, I’m a huge fan of Jim Calhoun, as I’ve stated repeatedly on this blog.

But am I the only one that thinks that Coach Calhoun should not be the one defending the integrity of college sports right now, given the allegations against the Huskies?

Also, am I the only one that finds it curious that Jeff Hathaway has been appointed chairman of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee for 2011-12?  Again, the UConn Men’s Basketball program is under investigation, and Hathaway is the UConn Athletic Director.  If the Huskies receive sanctions, they will likely be in effect during Hathaway’s term as chairman.

Let me be clear: I’m not suggesting that Hathaway was involved in the current scandal, but it did happen on his watch, and there certainly were some things that the athletic department could have done better.
