Harkless officially crosses UConn off the list

Less than a month after reopening his commitment, former 2011 UConn recruit Maurice Harkless has now crossed the Huskies off of his list entirely.

Interestingly, Harkless has dropped from around 50th on rivals.com to 86th, but was recently voted Most Outstanding Player at the Hoop Group camp in Reading, PA.

Harkless now lists Arizona, DePaul, Maryland, Memphis, Rutgers, St. John’s, South Florida, and Xavier, according to ZagsBlog.com, which also provides the following quote from former Syracuse player John Wallace:

‘ “He’s the best player here and he’s one of the better ones I’ve seen in a [while], he’s got it.” ‘

I still have yet to hear the reason why Harkless reopened his recruiting in the first place, and why he’s given up on UConn entirely.  It could be the logjam at small forward with Roscoe Smith, Niels Giffey and Jamal Coombs-McDaniel already in place; it could be that his relationship with UConn was through the now departed Patrick Sellers; or it might have to do with the recruiting scandal.
