UConn Huskies Headlines

“I don’t care what they say about me as long as they spell my name right.”

P.T. Barnum

That quotation, assuming it’s correctly attributed to Connecticut native P.T. Barnum, is apropos.

Say what you want about the current UConn scandal, but the Huskies are getting some serious press time these days, especially when you expect this to be a slow time.

The Notice of Allegations.

The resignations of Patrick Sellers and Beau Archibald.

Rumors about whether Sellers and Archibald resigned or were fired.  (Some say they were actually forced to resign by Athletic Director Jeffrey Hathaway)

Speculation over who will replace Sellers and Archibald. (Now believed to be Kevin Ollie and Donyell Marshall)

Rumors about what is actually being alleged, heightened by the parts of the document that are blacked out.

Stories about Josh Nochimson.

Speculation about what kind of penalties might be handed down, even though that won’t happen for several months.

Speculation about the future of UConn basketball, included some dire prognostications from people such as Seth Davis of cnnsi.com.

People calling for Jim Calhoun’s resignation.

People believing that Calhoun has always cheated.

Others defending Calhoun.

Shabazz Napier and Tyler Olander are on campus.  Well, it’s about a 5 minute walk for Olander, who played at E.O. Smith, just off the UConn campus.

Statements by Napier and Olander displaying their lack of concern regarding the effect of the allegations.

Finally, some non-scandal news.

The announced transfer of Darius Smith.

A campus visit by German forward Niels Giffey.

Yes, say what you want about UConn, but the Huskies are certainly in the headlines these days.

This is the definitely the best blog out about UCONN basketball. Have you been getting more readers, or is the purpose just to hash out your own thoughts?

      Bob,

First of all, thanks for the kind thoughts!

The answer to your question is: yes and ‘sort of’.

I have been getting more readers – it’s gone up each month since I started. It’s hard to say how many people will read during the next few months, because day to day there’s not as much to write about at this time of year. I have not done anything actively to increase the views of my blog, such as linking to other sites. I thought that perhaps I’d like to have more of a track record first.

I wouldn’t say I’m exactly hashing out my own thoughts, though that’s probably not far from the truth. My first few posts probably support your comment – I was reading a lot of opinions and articles that had the Huskies as a Top 15 team, and I just wasn’t seeing it. I commented on a few postings on other sites, then just decided to write my own opinions on my own site, and see what other people thought. If nothing else, I get my opinions on the record – and I wasn’t very far off this season.

I really don’t have a set idea as to where the blog is going – still just playing it by ear – but I enjoy writing it and getting feedback.

Two requests back to you (and all other readers):

      1) If there’s something you’d like to read about, let me know.
      2) If you like the blog, by all means, recommend it to your friends…
