Recruiting Updates: Cleveland Melvin and Kadeem Jack

Alex Kine of the RecruitScoop says he will tweet Cleveland Melvin’s college choice just before 3:30 P.M. today:

“Last tweet until right before 3:30 when I will announce where former UConn commit Cleveland Melvin ’10 lands. Zagsblog will have my story.”

Kadeem Jack seems to have eliminated UConn from his list.  The latest news is that he’s selecting from North Carolina, Kentucky, Arizona, Arkansas and Miami.

Jack was originally selecting from a list of about 4-5 schools, including UConn, before deciding to take a prep year at South Kent.  He reopened his recruiting after the Wear twins abruptly announced they were transferring from North Carolina.  With Kentucky landing 6’11” transfer Eloy Vargas for 2011, it’s believed the UNC is now the front runner.

I’m really wondering who the ‘mystery recruit’ is that Jim Calhoun alluded to after the Press Conference announcing his new contract.   Kadeem Jack was the last highly recruited player remaining that seemed to have UConn on his list.  My guess at this point is that UConn was considering another player, but that it simply will not happen.  The best case at this point is that it would be a good foreign player, but how many of those are still out there?  Otherwise, I can’t believe the Huskies can land someone at this point that isn’t a project; someone that will take 3-4 years to contribute.  Too many of those already on the team, and it’s not worth booting a current player just to add someone like that…
